BRATISLAVA (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - Sweden won their second match of the FIBA Under-19 World Championship for Women in Bratislava to move level with Australia at the top of Group D.
Sweden’s Frida Eldebrink scored a game-high 25 points in the 76-67 victory over Brazil.
Eldebrink made five assists and collected seven rebounds as Sweden finished the first-half one point ahead of their South American opponents before edging the third and fourth quarters to win by a margin of nine points.
Eldebrink’s team mate Frida Johanna Aili scored 23 points, while Clarissa Dos Santos grabbed 16 points for Brazil, with Nadia Gomes Calhado making 11 rebounds.
The teams could not be separated after the first 10 minutes with the scores level at 19-all.
Sweden then edged to the narrowest of leads at the half-time interval with an 18-17 second-period score and they did not look back.
The Scandinavians dominated the second-half, winning the third by five points (20-15) and the fourth by three points (19-16).
Sweden play Australia competing for top spot in Group D on Saturday, while Brazil face Mali, who are also looking for their first win.
