BRATISLAVA (FIBA U19 World Championships for Women) - Jelena Milovanovic poured in 16 points and grabbed six boards on Thursday as Serbia’s Under-19 women’s team got off to the perfect start with a 79-63 over their Canadian counterparts.

Milovanovic was six from 10 from close range, made one from four from downtown and split two free throws as she paced the Serbs.

She had excellent support from Sonja Petrovic who hauled down eight rebounds as well as contributing 11 points.

Other Serbian players to make double digit contributions were Smiljana Ivanovic (13), Dragana Gobeljic (11) and Maja Miljkovic (10).

There were some notable performances by Canadians with Miranda Ayim contributing 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Courtnay Pilypaitis and Kendel Ross both added 11 points but they could not prevent the Canadian women from getting off to a losing start.

The Serbs had never seriously been threatened after taking the first period 26-11.

They led 47-33 at halfway and had pulled clear to 68-53 at the end of the third period.
