BRATISLAVA (FIBA U19 World Championships for Women) - Alba Torrens was in inspired form as she led Spain to an 88-59 win over China in the eighth-finals of FIBA U19 World Championships for Women.
Spain were 21-11 ahead after the first quarter and although China tried gamely to stay in touch through the next 20 minutes, the 32-14 score in favour of Spain in the final quarter was decisive.
Torrens poured in a phenomenal 33 points, hauled down three rebounds, and laid on six assists in something approaching a one-woman show.
But she was given sterling support from Tamara Abalde (14 points, six assists), Anna Carbo (12 points, six assists) and Laura Nicholls, who had eight points and an impressive 14 assists.
In response, China were unable to match their powerful opponents in all areas of the court and were second best throughout.
Thirteen points apiece from Fei Cao and Fang Yuan, plus Bowen Zhang’s 10 points, were all China had to offer in response.
