NOVI SAD (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Lithuania bounced back from Monday's defeat to the United States with a comprehensive victory over China at the FIBA U19 World Championship.

After going down 90-81 to the Americans in their opening eighth-finals encounter in Novi Sad, the Lithuanians produced the perfect response by romping to an 85-66 triumph against China on Tuesday.

Martynas Gecevicius and Delvidas Gailius led the way for the victors with 17 and 16 points respectively, while Zygimantas Janavicius contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Yong Xu poured in 16 points in a losing cause, with Wei Su (14) and Qin Yang (10) also managing double figures.

The Chinese found themselves 4-0 up after two minutes, but the Europeans soon found their stride and overturned the deficit.

Lithuania were 17-12 ahead at the end of the first quarter and, although that lead soon increased to 30-21, the Asian outfit battled back strongly to get back within four points at 32-28 at the halfway stage.

The Lithuanians managed to briefly level the scores at 35-35 in the early stages of the third quarter, but soon pulled away again - and this time it was for keeps.

With the game finely balanced at 43-40 in Lithuania's favour, they embarked on a run of eight points without reply which effectively secured the points.

And they clinched the final period 27-19 to stretch the margin of victory still further.
