Career: Bunburry Slammers (Australia-ABA, 1999-2002), Metropolitan State (USA-NCAA Div. 2, 2001-05), Sydney Kings (Australia-NBL, 2005-06).
Mark Worthington is a very versatile player, able to play any of the 1 to 4 spots. His very complete game makes him a valuable player in any team. Despite being tall and not being a natural point guard, he can set the plays for his teammates. His ball handling and court vision allow him to run fastbreaks. Worthington spent four years in the USA, playing for Metropolitan State in the NCAA second division and won the national title in 2002.
This season was his first in the NBL, and he won the Rookie of the Year award, averaging 11.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for the Sydney Kings. Already a key member of Brian Goorjian’s system with the Kings, he may soon play the same role with the Boomers as he showed last summer.
