Career: Coamo (Puerto-Rico-BSN, 2000-05), Southeastern Iowa (USA-NJCAA Div. 1, 2001-03), UTEP (USA-NCAA Div. 1, 2003-05), Artland (Germany-Bundesliga, 2005-06).
Filiberto Rivera is one of the most promising Puerto Rican players. He had been faithful to the Maratonistas de Coamo since 2000 but couldn't join the team of his choice this season as he led the Artland Dragons to the German Bundesliga quarterfinals. After attending Southeastern Iowa Junior College for two years, he committed to the University of Texas El Paso in 2003. In his senior season, he averaged 13.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game but went undrafted. In his first season in Europe, he averaged 12.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game with the Artland Dragons in the Bundesliga and revealed himself as one of the best point guards of the German league.
He can be either a pass-first point guard or a scorer. He possesses both good court vision and great passing skills. His speed helps him to reach the basket quicker than his defender, and he is also a decent three-point shooter.
