Miguel Angel Marriaga is the most promising Venezuelan player. He declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft in 2004 and 2005 but withdrew his name twice. He was automatically eligible for the 2006 NBA Draft. He averaged 10.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in the LPB with Gaiteros de Zulia this season. He led the National Team to ninth place at the 2003 FIBA U19 World Championship in Greece with 16.5 points and 10.9 rebounds.
He debuted with the Senior National Team in 2003, but the transition will take some time. He is an excellent rebounder and a good shot-blocker.
