The Lions of Senegal Lions captain was given the national flag by the country's president, Abdoulaye Wade, to carry the spirit of Senegal during the 2005 FIBA Africa Championship. Cissé seemed very honoured by that event and after returning from Algeria with the silver medal, the whole country was in the streets to welcome him. After leaving the famous Dakar club ASCC BOPP, Cissé went to play in France's lower divisions, waiting years for a French passport. He regularly finished among the top scorers and assist leaders, and he finally reached the French first division at 27. While some doubted he could adjust to it, Cissé immediately became one of the best point guards in the French Pro A.
Nicknamed "Babou", he was selected twice as an All Star in the French league. He also shows up for big events (18 points in the 2005 FIBA Africa Championship final against Angola), and he will be one of the leaders for Senegal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship in Japan.
