Richard Lugo is the best Venezuelan player in the National Team's frontcourt. He started his career in the LPB in 1994 and won the Rookie of the Year award. After attending the University of St. Francis, he came back to his native country and developed himself as one of the best players of the LPB with Panteras de Miranda, being named MVP in 1998. He also played in Puerto Rico, Spain and Poland, competing in the Euroleague with Wroclaw. This season, he led Trotamundos de Carabobo to the LPB title, averaging 16.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game as one of the best players in the league.
Lugo has played with the National Team since 1998. He is a very good rebounder and possesses excellent shot-blocking skills. He is very athletic and hard to stop under the boards.
