At the age of 34, Phill Jones is one of the most experienced members of the Tall Blacks. He has been the best Kiwi player at guard for 10 years. He won two NBL titles with the Nelson Giants in 1994 and 1998 and was named the Kiwi MVP in 1996, 1998 and 2001. He debuted with the Tall Blacks in 1994 and has been one of the best scorers of the team since that day. With 21.0 points per game, he was the second best scorer at the 2004 Olympic Games. He played for the New Zealand Breakers in their inaugural season in 2003 and also European experience after playing in Finland and Italy. Jones has played for three seasons for Cantù, competing in the ULEB Cup and the FIBA EuroCup.
He remains a good scorer who can make the correct decision at any moment. He is an excellent three-point shooter. He has both a New Zealand and British passport.
