Robert Garrett has proven time and again that he can be an excellent scorer. A former German league leading scorer, Garrett possesses great drive and determination to get to the basket. He also can hurt opponents if left open beyond the arc with his knack of hitting important three-pointers. But the stocky wing player is not known for playing outstanding defence. Garrett left Germany in 2004 for Italy but was never able to break through there. National Team coach Dirk Bauermann nominated him for the 2005 EuroBasket, and the move paid off as Garrett was able to find holes in the defence as it concentrated on Dirk Nowitzki.
Garrett's play impressed the coach and got him a deal this season with Bauermann's Bamberg team. "I knew he was a good offensive player, but Robert even played some good defence in Serbia," Bauermann said. And Garrett again found a role in Bauermann's system - this time at Bamberg as the main scoring threat off the bench. His big three-pointers helped Bamberg advance to the Top 16 in the Euroleague. But after leading scorer Demond Mallet went down for the season just before the playoffs, Garrett was unable to provide enough of a spark.
