A perimeter guy with quick hands and decent foot speed. But more than that, Gianluca is a killer. He has a long-range shooting range; can create shots off the dribble; or drive to the basket using a nice little "rainbow shot". His biggest shot ever may have come in the semifinals of the 2004 Olympics when his three-pointer broke Lithuania's come-back with two minutes to go.

That led Barcelona in the summer of 2005 to pay Fortitudo Bologna a 1.3 million dollar transfer fee for Basile. Few could have imagined that looking at Gianluca's background as a young boy. In his hometown of Ruvo di Puglia, in southern Italy, Basile had to wake up early in the morning to help his father on the family farm.
