CAN - Canada to host France in preview of World Championship clash

TORONTO (2010 FIBA World Championship for Men) - Canada will play a two-game series against France in mid-August as part of their preparations for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

Canada Basketball announced that the 2010 Jack Donohue International Classic (JDIC) will take place on 12th-13th August at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The "Road Warriors" will face Les Bleus on both days in what will serve as a preview of their Group D clash in Izmir on 31st August.

"We are thrilled to bring the excitement of international basketball back to Toronto," said Canada Basketball Executive Director and CEO Wayne Parrish.

"Toronto is a basketball mad city and these games offer our passionate fans an opportunity to see Canada's team first hand as we begin our road to the World Championship."

The JDIC marks the first time that Team Canada will play games on home soil since 2008, and the first time that the French men's senior team play in Canada.

While rosters for both teams are still to be determined, both squads will have several top flight players that compete professionally around the globe and in the NBA.

"I hope these two games will prepare us perfectly for our third confrontation that will take place in the first round of the World Championship in Turkey," said France head coach Vincent Collet.

Collet's counterpart, Leo Rautins welcomed the two home games as a good way for Canada to head into the final stretch before the World Championship.

"It means so much for our team to be preparing for the FIBA World Championship right here at home. There is nothing like a home court filled with cheering fans in red and white to motivate our team. We have a great group of guys coming back this year, and we look forward to continuing to build on the successes from last summer."

After the JDIC, the "Road Warriors" will then hit the road for a series of exhibition games. Canada will join Serbia, Greece, and Slovenia in Athens, Greece for the Greece Acropolis Tournament (17th-19th August).

Canada's final tune-up will be the Efes Pilsen Cup Tournament in Ankara, Turkey (21st-23rd August) where they will face off against Argentina, Turkey and Lebanon.

Tickets for the JDIC go on sale on Friday at 14:00 local time (20:00 Central European Time). For ticket information, click here and enter Canada Basketball.
