NEW YORK (2010 FIBA World Championship) - All eyes will be on Turkey for the FIBA World Championship later this year but before then, the game will take center stage in New York.
According to media reports in the Big Apple, Team USA, China, France and one other national team will play games at Madison Square Garden in mid-August as part of their preparations for Turkey.
Team USA won the gold medal at the 2008 Olympics and are hell-bent on claiming a world title - something they have not done since the 1994 FIBA World Championship.
Four years ago in Japan, the United States were upset 101-95 by Greece in the Semi-Finals and had to make do with bronze following a convincing victory over Argentina.
In Turkey, Team USA will play Preliminary Round games in Istanbul against Slovenia, Brazil, Croatia, Iran and Tunisia.
New York has been a city of incredible sporting events over the years.
The expected presence of a star-laden Team USA in the city for two weeks of training and then the warm-up games will take the city by storm.
They will not be the only big names in town.
According to reports, the USA's 1960 Olympic gold-medal winning side that included recent FIBA Hall-of-Fame inductee Oscar Robertson, and the Americans' 1992 Dream Team, will be honored during various ceremonies in the two-week period.
As for the warm-up games, the format has yet to be determined.
