ARG - Anibal Marín out of opener for Quimsa

SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO (Liga Sudamericana) – Quimsa will have home-court advantage for the Liga Sudamericana when it tips off on November 17 after being named hosts of the event but the Argentinians will also be at a disadvantage with Anibal Marín suspended for their opening game against Minas Tenis Clubé of Brazil.

The shooting guard/small forward must serve a one-game ban following an altercation he had with Brazil international Marcelinho Machado of Flamengo in their decisive Group C clash that Quimsa won, 98-63.

Marín averaged just under seven points per game in their three group victories that were played in Santiago del Estero, the venue for the Final Four.

Two other Argentinian Liga Nacional clubs, Sionista and Libertad Sunchales, will also be at the Final Four and the winner will clinch a place in the third FIBA Americas League, which tips off on December 6.

Should Minas Tenis prevail in the Final Four, then the second-place team will qualify.

Meanwhile, Marcelinho will have to serve his suspension in the future since Flamengo, the defending champions, failed to reach the last four. The ban will not impact his play with Brazil’s national team.

The South American Basketball Association has handed down the suspensions.
