VEN - Venezuela calls 19 players for national team

CARACAS (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) - Venezuela announced the list of players that were called for the national team that will train for the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship to be played from August 26 to September 6 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

A total of 19 players were called as the practices start on July 10 and after the LPB finals all the players are expected to report.

The team will travel to the United States on July 20 and they will stay there until August 2 as they plan to play against China, Nigeria, México, Uruguay, Dominican Republic and some teams from the United States.

Venezuela is in Group B along with Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and the Dominican Republic. The top four teams in the tournament qualify for the 2010 FIBA World Championship to be played in Turkey.

The players called were: Heissler Guillent, Greivis Vásquez and Jesus Centeno (PG); Jhon Cox, Eduardo Torres, Rafael Pérez, Oscar Torres, Carlos Cedeño and Jose Vargas (SG); Juan Herrera, Axier Sucre, Luis Julio, Luis Bethelmy, Hector Romero, Alejandro Barrios and Gregory Echenique (SF-PF); Miguel Marriaga and Richard Lugo (C).

Guillermo Navarte will be the head coach and his assistants are Nelson "Kako" Solorzano and Carl Herrera
