MADRID (FIBA Basketball World Cup) - FIBA and the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) will come together on Monday 1 July in the very heart of Madrid to launch the countdown to the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
FIBA's flagship competition is now just 14 months away and a special event will take place in the Spanish capital to officially start counting down the time until the action gets underway on 30 August 2014.
Ahead of the launch, 2014 basketballs will be distributed in Madrid over the weekend to ensure it is filled with basketball fever come Monday. Here is how Madrid will look like this weekend:
Monday's event will see the official slogan of the tournament being unveiled in a party atmosphere in Puerta del Sol. Music, cheerleaders as well as games and activities for kids around the Spain 2014 Road Show truck will provide the entertainment value of the event. Everyone will also have an opportunity to register for a raffle which will award 14 tickets for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup as well as other prizes. The day’s festivities will culminate with the unveiling of the Tissot countdown clock, right in the middle of the square.
The official part will take place at the Palacio de la Comunidad, with the presence of distinguished guests FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann; FEB President Jose Luis Saez; the Art, Culture and Athletic Delegate of the Madrid City Council Pedro Corral; His Excellency Ignacio Gonzalez, President of the Community of Madrid and Javier Nunez, Tissot Representative.
