PRAGUE/VILNIUS (FIBA U19 World Championships) - The countdown to this summer's FIBA U19 World Championship and FIBA U19 World Championship for Women begins this week with the draws for both tournaments taking place.
On Tuesday 15 January, the draw for the men's tournament will be held at 11:00 local/CET time in Prague, Czech Republic.
The following 16 men's teams will go into the hat and find out their Preliminary Round opponents: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, hosts Czech Republic, Iran, Ivory Coast, Korea, defending champions Lithuania, Russia, Senegal, Serbia, Spain, and the USA.
The FIBA U19 World Championship will be held in Prague from 27 June to 7 July 2013. Lithuania are the defending champions, having beaten Serbia in the Final two years ago in Latvia.
On Thursday 17 January, it will be the turn of the women's teams to find out their fate with the draw at 11:30 local time (10:30 CET) in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The 16 women's teams that will be drawn into the four Preliminary Round groups will be: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Japan, Korea, hosts Lithuania, Mali, Netherlands, Senegal, Russia, Serbia, Spain and defending champions USA.
The FIBA U19 World Championship for Women will be held in Panevezys and Klaipeda from 18 to 28 July. The USA are the four-time defending champions, having won the tournament each time dating back to 2007. In 2011, they defeated Spain in the Final in Chile.
