Jenkins' hot shooting carries Alba past Tübingen
BERLIN (Beko Basketball Bundesliga) - Alba Berlin rode Julius Jenkins's hot hand to beat WALTER Tigers Tübingen 99-83 and remain in firm control of first place.
The American shooting guard had a game-high 30 points and buried eight of 11 attempts from three-point range as the eight-time league champions ended the visitors' six-game winning streak. Sascha Nadjfeji added 16 points and dished out six assists.
The Tigers were led by Michael Jenkins - no relation to Julius - who finished with a team-high 28 points and, incredibly enough, had the same accuracy (eight for 11) from beyond the arc as his homonym.
Meanwhile, Telekom Baskets Bonn came very close to suffering a big upset at the hands of newcomers Phoenix Hagen, but in the end just about held on for a 67-64 win. Michael Koch's side had 36-year-old centre Chris Ensminger to thank as he paced them with 20 points and 12 rebounds to stay within distance of Alba Berlin.
There was a surprise result as strugglers LTi Giessen 46ers ended Eisbären Bremerhaven's seven-game winning streak with an 84-81 away win. Maurice Jeffers had 23 points and Bosnian big man Elvir Ocvina added 18 for the visitors.
