UGA - Uganda Federation holds Coaches Clinic

KAMPALA (Coaches Clinic) - The Athletes in Action Uganda Ambassadors in conjunction with Federation of Uganda Basketball Association coaches’ clinic from January 18 through 20.

The 3-Day clinic which will attracted top coaches from FIBA Africa Zone-5 will take place at the Victory City Church Ntinda Kampala.

According to Coach Gad Eteu of Kyambogo Warriors basketball club Uganda, the clinic will draw resource persons from Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda.

Day-1 of the clinic will see participants being taken through the importance of Spirituality and Sports by Coach Mandy Juruni of UCU Lady Canons Uganda. Building a basketball program and creating a coaching identity by Coach Eteu Uganda. A look at Advantages and Disadvantages of Zone Defense by Coach Carey Odhiambo of Cooperative Bank basketball club of Kenya the day’s activities will be rounded up with a papers to be delivered by duo of Coaches Cliff Owuor of APR Lions basketball club of Rwanda and Odhiambo of Coop-Bank, Kenya dwelling on building transition offense at the highest state of elite basketball and Principles of Zone offense. The clinic continues with seven papers to be delivered on the Day-2 of the clinic with an insight into a look at how coaches can use their position to influence lives positively and the foundations in building a man-to-man defense/ developing team toughness and elite play by Coach Timothy Odeke KCC Leopards basketball club, Uganda. Building full court team defense, a look at the concepts and principles to be applied by Coach Owuor of APR Rwanda, things I believe make a successful coach and a successful basketball program by Coach Eteu while Coach Smart Olumbo of Eagles Wings basketball club, Kenya will present papers on attacking pressure defense and Organizing training sessions, an example of pre-season training, with Coach Jurini speaking on the importance of team building on and off the basketball court.

The clinic will end with three papers on Wednesday and examination, the papers will focus on account of how God gave each of us a talent to glorify his name by Coach Eteu while Coach Juruni speaks on the elements to consider in scouting opposition games for competition and the third paper which will be jointly presented by Coaches Eteu and Olumbo will centre on building concentration as a coach and management of players’ psychology.

The Uganda Basketball Federation will also use the occasion to formally form the Uganda Basketball Coaches Association while certificates will be awarded successful participants of the 3-Day clinic.
