TURKEY BOUND – More hope for Sergio with a season-high 32 minutes in Kings’ win over Knicks


SACRAMENTO (NBA) - Sergio Rodriguez got another chance to demonstrate his worth with the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night and he took full advantage.

The point guard who is hoping to reclaim a spot in Spain's national team for the 2010 FIBA World Championship played a season-high 32 minutes for coach Paul Westphal and helped the Kings beat the New York Knicks, 111-97.

The 23-year-old Rodriguez, who is in his fourth NBA campaign after spending the first three with Portland, scored 15 points, dished out four assists, grabbed four rebounds and came up with two steals.

Rodriguez capitalized on the absence of Kings playmaker Beno Udrih, who wasn’t feeling well.

Here are some of the other notable performances of players headed that could be headed to the FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

Spain

  • Rudy Fernandez - The Portland guard made four of five shots from three-point range and scored 12 points in a 93-83 win over the New Jersey Nets.


Team USA

  • Dwight Howard - The Orlando center had 16 rebounds to go with his 12 points but the Magic lost at home to Miami, 99-98.
  • Brook Lopez - The Team USA hopeful had 32 points and 14 rebounds for New Jersey but the Nets slumped to a 15th consecutive defeat to start the campaign.

Canada

  • Joel Anthony - The Miami Heat reserve made the most of his 13 minutes, scoring six points and swatting three shots in the victory over Orlando.


Germany

  • Dirk Nowitzki - The Dallas star had 25 points and eight rebounds in the Mavs' 130-99 mauling of the Rockets in Houston.


Puerto Rico

  • JJ Barea - The Mavs' back-up point guard played 27 minutes and had nine assists, five rebounds and three steals to go with his eight points in the win over Houston.

Brazil

  • Nene - The big center had 17 points and eight rebounds to help the Denver Nuggets beat Minnesota, 124-111.


France

  • Tony Parker - The San Antonio point guard had 32 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in the Spurs' 118-104 win over Golden State.
