BEN - A’Politecnica versus Interclube

COTONOU (15th FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women) - Losing a last minute opportunity to top group-B of the 15th FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women, Interclube basketball club of Angola will have her hands full when they file out against Mozambique A’Politecnica in the second quarter-final on Friday.

The Angola who enjoyed some blitz in her first three preliminary games before succumbing to the gut displayed by defending champion, Desportivo in her last group game Wednesday must be at optimum level against the A’Politecnica side who finished third behind First Bank of Nigeria and Abidjan Basket Club ABC of Cote d’Ivoire in group-A when both sides file out Friday at 14.00Hour at the IRSP gymnase in Ouidah.

Powered on by Africa oldest woman basketball player, ageless Irene Guerreiro, the Interclubes players have one thing going for them, that is unity of purpose as evident in all the games they have played so far.

Players to watch:

A’Politecnica – Ana Flavia Azinheira, has proved to be very reliable for her side, playing a leading in her side quest for honours in this competition.

A very good team player contributing so well for her side she also scores and rebound well and very experience which has seen her keeping her place in the national team since 2006.

Born in 1977, this Maputo-born player did not show any form of tiredness as she plays as if she is just 20 years old, with her Interclube definitely have a job on their hands.

Iida Da Gloria Chambe, very tough in the paint and a great asset for her side good rebounder, 22-year-old Chambe will be expected to lead her side quest for a place in the semi-final against an experience Interclube when both sides file out Friday in the quarter-final.

Interclube – Irene Guerreiro is one player any coach will be proud to have on his line-up with her leadership quality, this never-say-die Amazon of Africa basketball is unique in every sense of the game.

At 39-years, Irene did not look her age when on the basketball court as she displayed strength of a U-20 player.

She is coach-like player to her teammates as she propelled them to give their best every time.

With intimidating international exposure which span close to two decades for both the Angolan national team and club, Irene often referred as the mother-of-Africa basketball is considered to be one of the best three point shooters of the final round of the 15th FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women in Benin Republic will lead her team challenge against the Mozambican in Friday quarter-final.
