TURKEY BOUND - Leading internationals hit sidelines with injuries

NEW YORK (2010 FIBA World Championship) – Argentina’s Manu Ginobili strained a hamstring in the first quarter of San Antonio's overtime defeat to Dallas on Wednesday night and played no further part in the game.

It’s uncertain when Ginobili, the MVP of Argentina's gold-medal win at the 2009, will return.

He joined a growing list of injured stars who are hoping to play at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

His Argentina teammates Fabricio Oberto (left hamstring) and Andres Nocioni (hip pointer) have been out of action for Washington and Sacramento, respectively.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Luca Richard Mbah a Moute missed Wednesday's win against New Jersey with a foot injury.

Mbah a Moute is the most high profile player of Cameroon, a team hoping to get a wild card for the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

Spain's Pau Gasol has yet to play this season for the Los Angeles Lakers due to a hamstring injury while New Orleans' Chris Paul of Team USA and France's Tony Parker of San Antonio are out of action with ankle injuries.

New Jersey’s Yi Jianlian is still missing games with a sprained right MCL.

LeBron James of Team USA hurt his wrist while dunking for Cleveland on Wednesday night but stayed in the game, an upset defeat to Washington.

Here are some notable performances, and non-performances, from players headed to the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

Germany

  • Dirk Nowitzki - The Dallas Maverick is playing like he's going to be league MVP again. Nowitzki had 41 points, including 11 in overtime, to lead the Mavs past San Antonio, 99-94. Nowitzki could play in Turkey next year if Germany receive a wild card.

Spain

  • Mark Gasol - The Spain center scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, handed out six assists and blocked two shots to help Memphis defeat the Los Angeles Clippers 106-91.

Argentina

  • Luis Scola – The Houston Rockets power forward scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in a 97-84 triumph at Minnesota.

Croatia

  • Roko Ukic - The Croatia national team playmaker, who like Milwaukee teammate Brandon Jennings once played for Lottomatica Roma, did not play against New Jersey. Ukic has now sat two games in a row for the Bucks with Rookie of the Year candidate Jennings and Luke Ridnour receiving most of the minutes at point guard for the Bucks.

Iran

  • Hamed Ehadadi - The 7ft 2in center played just two minutes for Memphis in their win over the Clippers.

Russia

  • Andrei Kirilenko - The Russia star, who will play at the FIBA World Championship if his national side receives a wild card, had 20 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks in 32 minutes for the Jazz in their 104-91 home win over Toronto.
