TEHRAN (FIBA Asia Championship/FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Memi Becirovic believes Iran will only benefit as coaches not only the national team but leading club side, Mahram.
Becirovic, a veteran campaigner with various clubs in Europe who also led his native Slovenia to the Quarter-Finals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship, recently lost in his first game as Mahram coach to Foolad Mahan.
The defeat has not dampened his enthusiasm about being at the helm of a club side because more than anything, he is getting a chance to have a good look at all of the players who can play for the national team and help Iran in its attempt to reach the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
In an interview with FIBAAsia.net, the 51-year-old Becirovic said: "I can still do my job as a national team coach.
"Other players apart from Mahram have this chance to be tested against Mahram.
"And there is always this option to watch the other games videos.
"So, be sure that all good players will be seen and will join the national team at the end of league."
While Spanish club coaches are not allow to lead national teams, most leagues do not have such a restriction.
"This really normal all over the world - for a coach to be a national team coach and work in a club at the same time," he said.
"I think it is even good for national team.
"It is not okay if I stand out and just watch the games."
Iran will go after a third title in the last four attempts at the FIBA Asia Championship when the event is held in Lebanon next summer.
