NGR - Hope 4 Girls camp begins in Abeokuta

ABEOKUTA (Hope-4-Girl Camp) - The first edition of Hope-4-Girls basketball camp being put together by former Nigeria international, Mobolaji Akiode begins in the ancient city of Abeokuta, Ogun State Southwest Nigeria with the arrival of the invited players and coaches from across Nigeria.

The five coaches invited for the camp from the United States of America have also arrived and are looking forward to working out with the girls who are seeing this camp as a novel idea that is directed in their favour unlike all other camps that have being organised in the past which are dominated by male players.

Final touches were being put in place for the event that will run from August 3 through 9 at the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja.

Some of the coaches invited from the USA includes, Adia Revell, Mariana Freeman, Kevin Morris and Karlen Thompson who are visiting Africa for the first time.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Sports, Bukola Olopade who has worked round the clock to ensure that logistics for a hitch free camp are in place declare the readiness of the Gateway state to continue to back the camp.

He applauded Akiode for deeming it fit to give back to the society using basketball as a positive vehicle to reengineer the girl-child.

Alabi Adelanwa, a retired basketball coach said he is excited that those that have made it like Akiode are giving back to the system that made them, Coach Adelanwa, however, called on other former international to emulate Akiode gesture by remembering their root.
