MIES (2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup/2014 FIBA World Championship for Women) - Copyright Promotions Licensing Group (CPLG) is proud to announce its partnership with FIBA, the International Basketball Federation, with the specific aim of launching an event-led consumer product programme for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The FIBA Basketball World Cup is FIBA's flagship world competition, held every four years and it will be staged in Spain from 30 August to 14 September 2014, with the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women to follow, taking place in Turkey from 27 September to 5 October 2014.
FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, is an independent association formed by 213 National Basketball Federations throughout the world. It is recognised as the sole competent authority in basketball by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
FIBA appointed CPLG to launch the event-led consumer product programme as the company has a longstanding tradition of successfully representing both large sporting events and major sporting institutions over its 40-year history. With a track record of successful merchandising programmes launched that includes FIFA World Cups, national teams across football and rugby as well as world sports, CPLG have the experience and international reach needed to launch a successful event-led consumer products initiative for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
CPLG's Barcelona office will lead the initiative by building an international licensing programme that targets fans of all ages. CPLG will also look to immediately appoint sub-agent representation in Turkey to successfully exploit the opportunity associated with the FIBA World Championship for Women which runs in Turkey in September and October 2014.
Peter Byrne, CEO of CPLG, said: "We are delighted to be collaborating with FIBA on this unique sporting event. We plan on working closely with them to launch a targeted international licensing programme that capitalises on the huge popularity of basketball not only in Spain but across and Europe and indeed the world."
Patrick Baumann, FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) Member, welcomed the announcement of the partnership.
"With our two flagship events - the FIBA Basketball World Cup and the FIBA World Championship for Women - just over a year from now, we are striving to constantly improve in making them world class sporting events that captivate the attention of billions of basketball and sports fans worldwide," he said.
"An important part of that has to do with promotion of the tournaments through appealing products and merchandise. We are very excited to team up with CPLG and working with them to develop our licensing and retail strategies across the two events."
