COLORADO SPRINGS - A delighted Jerry Colangelo has been handed another four years at the helm of USA Basketball after being re-elected to serve as Chair of the Board Of Directors until 2016.
The decision was taken at the recent USA Basketball annual meeting in Colorado and, not surprisingly, Colangelo is looking forward to continuing in his current role for a second term.
Reflecting on his achievements so far and the tasks ahead, Colangelo suggested it will be very much business as usual for himself and his colleagues.
"I'm excited to again serve USA Basketball as chairman for the next four years," he said.
"I'm proud of the many successes USA Basketball's coaches and players achieved over the past four years, and I'm looking forward to helping keep that momentum going.
“We were not only successful in competitions, but in the manner in which everyone associated with USA Basketball represented our country on and away from the court.
“We focused on showing the utmost respect for the competitions and for our international opponents."
"Four years ago, I remarked that there is a great legacy at USA Basketball and my goal was to continue growing the legacy and to continue growing the game on every level.
“That will remain the case the next four years."
One of the main responsibilities that lays ahead for Colangelo is to lead on the decision as to who will coach the senior men’s team moving forward after Mike Krzyzewski said the gold-medal success at the recent London Olympics was his final game in the hot-seat.
Six newcomers to the Board were also announced at the meeting, including two athlete representatives in the shape of Los Angeles Clippers guard and former USA national team player Chauncey Billups, as well as three-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Smith.
