FIBA has created a Ranking for National Teams. You will find below all the necessary information on how the FIBA Ranking is calculated.

Please note that the FIBA Ranking is mainly used for promotional purposes. It may be used at FIBA's discretion for sports related decisions.

FIBA also reserves the right to change the ranking calculation system at any time without previous notification.

The ranking is calculated within the scope of a 2 Olympic Games cycle (including qualifying competitions at FIBA Zone level). Here are the number of competitions that are taken into account:

2 FIBA World Championships
2 Olympic Basketball Tournaments
4 FIBA Africa Championships
4 FIBA Americas Championships
4 FIBA Asia Championships
4 Eurobasket Championships
4 FIBA Oceania Championships

Whenever a new championship is played the oldest championship of that category drops out. The FIBA Ranking is then recalculated.

The weighing of the U18 and U16 Zone Championships have been adapted to frequency of competitions (in Europe U16 and U18 is played every year). Whenever a new championship is played the oldest championship of that category drops out. The FIBA Ranking is then recalculated.
