Antetokounmpo brothers in, Dorsey and Kavvadas out for Greece

ATHENS (2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments) - Greece will have the Antetokounmpo brothers at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) in Turin with Thanasis joining NBA star Giannis on the national team roster for an important event for the first time.

Coach Fotis Katsikaris has cut Tyler Dorsey and Vassilis Kavvadas to get to his final squad.

Dorsey was a standout guard in last year's FIBA U19 World Championship team in Crete and an All-Star Five selection while center Kavvadas represented the national side at EuroBasket 2013 but was not in the EuroBasket 2015 squad.

One of the other emerging talents in the Greece basketball program, last year's MVP of the U18 European Championship and a teammate of Dorsey in the U19 squad, Vasilis Charalampopoulos, has made the roster.

Greece will play in Group A against Iran and Mexico at the OQT, while Croatia, Italy and Tunisia will trade blows in Group B. Only the winner of the event will qualify for the Rio de Janeiro Games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a huge hit for the Greeks the past couple of summers, playing at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain and also the EuroBasket. He is excited to have his brother in the squad.

Greece were successful when they hosted the 2008 OQT and claimed one of the three spots for the Beijing Games but four years ago in Caracas, Venezuela, the team fell in an upset to Nigeria in the knockout phase of the 12-team tournament and failed to reach the London Olympics.

They clinched a spot in the 2016 OQT field by finishing fifth at EuroBasket 2015, where their only loss in the tournament came in France against eventual champions Spain in the Quarter-Finals.
