RIO DE JANEIRO (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - USA guard Lindsay Whalen was solid for most of the tournament, but it was in the Gold Medal Game against Spain that she brought out her A game. 

As the Americans tried to figure out how to overcome a resilient Spanish team, Whalen came off the bench to become the game-changer with 17 points and 6 assists that saw the USA claim their sixth straight Olympic gold medal.

"We played hard tonight ...we worked hard together...we played unselfishly and we got the win. It was a good tournament for us," the 1.75m guard said to FIBA.com after their 101-72 triumph.

Although Whalen described Spain as a great team, she feels that the Americans were on a mission and that whoever they played faced trouble in trying to stop them. 

"[Spain] played great, they are a very tough team, they have got a lot of talent, their guard players are off the charts, we just had to go out there and play as well as we could and we did that," she explained. 

"This is a great team," Whalen said of the Rio Olympics winners. "So unselfish... everybody making plays for each other, unbelievable team. I am so thankful to be a part of it. It helped me win some gold medals."

After winning her first gold medal with the USA at the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women, Whalen can't wait for more silverware.
