Turkey get back to work, Nakkasoglu joins group

ISTANBUL (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Two weeks after securing a place at the Rio 2016 Olympics, Turkey returned to work on Wednesday in Istanbul with a new player looking to earn a spot on the final roster.

Although head coach Ekrem Memnun has kept the entire roster that won all their games in the 2016 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT) in Nantes, France - where it qualified to the Olympics for the second time in a row - the Turkish Basketball Federation announced that Funda Nakkasoglu has become the newest member of the group.

The Australia-born Nakkasoglu last played for Utah State University in the USA and has joined the Turkish national team for the first time.

A point guard known for her quickness to attack the basket, she was the Mountain West Conference's leading scorer in the 2015-16 season, averaging 20.8 points per game. She ranked 21st in the country in scoring and was named to the All-Mountain West first team.

Before Turkey travel to Rio where they have been drawn in Group A alongside Japan, France, Australia, Belarus, and hosts Brasil, they will participate in an international tournament in Belgrade, Serbia, from 21-24 July.
