Serbia's Raduljica: 'We'll be ready'

RIO DE JANEIRO (Rio 2016 Olympic Games) - Serbia have experienced the high of winning a FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) on home soil this summer, rolling to four wins in as many games.

Now the players are in Rio de Janeiro, ready to take aim at a podium finish. Center Miroslav Raduljica has spoken to FIBA.com.

FIBA.com: Did the team lose its rhythm since the OQT ended back on 9 July?
Raduljica: It was a little bit disrupted because we've had a little gap of three weeks without games, but we picked it up a little in Argentina which maybe you can see in a few games. We started very bad, but maybe we just fell out of competition rhythm, game rhythm. But we picked it up which was useful that, spending a few days in Argentina before the Olympics because of the time difference and stuff. We're going to be ready.

FIBA.com: Are there any distractions at an Olympics which may cause the players to lose their focus?
Raduljica: Not really. All of the guys are really focused on the one goal that we have and that is that we came here to compete and win every game that we can so it is pretty exciting to be here among the best sportsmen, athletes in the world. So we're pretty honored to be here but all of the guys have both feet on the ground and they're smart and focused on the goal.

FIBA.com: The time, where has it gone since 2009 when you played for Serbia's senior team for the first time at the EuroBasket in Poland and reached the Final? You were just 21.
Raduljica: Time just flew by and now we're all here and this is what we all dream about all our lives. I can't say that in 2009 we were thinking specifically about this but somewhere in the back of our minds, it was always a goal that we needed to achieve in our careers, to make the Olympics.

FIBA.com: You only just arrived. What's the challenge like of getting comfortable in new surrounds so you are ready to be at your best when the games start?
Raduljica: It's still confusing for everybody because we need to settle down in our apartments. We need to go for our daily routine, which is sometimes a little hard because our practice time and schedule is a little different to what we're used to. But everything is going to be fine. Guys have experience from the World University Games which is from my experience very similar to this, only this is much bigger but basically the same. We're going to be ready for the first game.
