Palau makes history with FIBA U17 Bronze Medal

GUAM (FIBA U17 Oceania Championship 2017) – Palau have done their nation proud by winning the countries first ever FIBA U17 Bronze Medal. Palau was able to take out the Divison B Bronze medal game, 62-50 over a spirited Marshall Islands.

JT Timarong led his team with 17 points and a staggering 26 rebounds, to finish his tournament off with a double-double.

Palau stayed on top of Marshall Islands for most of the game on both ends of the floor. Timarong led Palau for the whole event but came up big in their final to get them over the line.

This is the biggest event that these players have ever been a part of.

“It was our first time playing in an arena like this, it was a great experience, all we wanted to do was to come and give it our all.”

Timarong credited this medal to his teammates.

“This wasn’t just me, all of my teammates played so well. We are very proud to receive a medal because our country is small and I hope we made our people proud.”

Timarong emphasised what a great experience Palau has had this week.

“Playing against other teams like Australia was a great experience for the boys and it’s something to really take in and learn from.”

“I just want to thank my country for supporting Team Palau being alongside all our games. We gave it our all for our country. God Bless.”
