CHARLEROI (EuroCup Women/AfroBasket Women) – The head of Geraldine Robert is still spinning after an incredible couple of weeks which has not only seen landmark career wins, but also a glimpse into life when she hangs up her playing shoes.

The powerful forward has been crowned a EuroCup Women winner with Villeneuve d’Ascq after the French club overturned a first leg deficit to destroy Castors Braine 73-53 in the deciding second game.

Robert epitomised the experience and physicality of the visitors, who shattered the dreams of the home side and their 6,000 fans inside the Spiroudome.

The 34-year-old was also part of an effective Villeneuve frontcourt which included fellow veteran Ann Wauters.

The Belgian was roundly booed by her compatriots in the stands after a brutal offensive foul on Anete Steinberga and a subsequent altercation with Marjorie Capreaux.

However by the end of the contest, they had to accept that the legend had made the difference with a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Unable to have played any real part in the opening game of the Final due to her returning back from AfroBasket Women qualifying duties with Gabon, Robert was relieved to have been able to play a nice cameo and help deliver some silverware for the 500 travelling fans.

"It was amazing and especially after we had lost the first game," she stated.

"We sat and watched that game and realised we had played well, but had also made a lot of mistakes.

"We knew we had to correct them and that is exactly what we did.

"Of course it was frustrating for me (in the first game) as I wanted to help my team and at the end of the day, I am a competitor.

"I was supporting them from the bench.

"However, this time I got the opportunity to play and to help them, with the best thing being that everybody played and contributed, so I am very happy."

Rushing back from Africa meant jumping from one success to another, with Robert also revealing that, she will do everything she can to take the Federation to new heights - and not just on the hardwood.

She said, "It was strange playing for my national team for the first time and it was an amazing experience as we qualified for AfroBasket Women and now I am a EuroCup Women champion too.

"These last two weeks have been incredible for me.

"The Gabon national team has not been at AfroBasket Women for ten years and it was new for my team-mates and it was the first time we had all played together.

"The Federation had also never really organised an event like this before for us and there were some mistakes and some things missing, but overall it was amazing.

"I am going to now work to help the Federation become even more professional in Gabon and I am going to help them to mature.

"I am going to involved with the Federation when I have stopped playing," added Robert.

But of course before she thinks too much about retiring from the game, she will firstly represent her nation at AfroBasket Women in September.
