We must sow the seeds today to harvest the crop tomorrow, says Thailand coach

MEDAN (2015 FIBA Asia U16 women’s Championship) - Thailand coach, Pongsak Kaewjaidee, is eagerly anticipating his team’s clash with India as he believes that the game itself is the most realistic match to win in the preliminary round.

“It is a very important match for us, realistically this was the match we have been targeting to win, simply because we know the remaining four teams are better organized and prepared then us."

“After losing to Chinese Taipei yesterday, we had a team meeting and I emphasized on the importance of the game against India.”

If Thailand defeat India on Wednesday, they will most likely be finishing 5th in Level I, and consequently they will be facing Level II’s 2nd placed team.

“We came to Medan to retain our Level I status for the 2017 tournament. It’s a realistic target because we are still not ready to compete with the likes of China, Japan, Korea and even Taipei”

The 53-year-old coach, who also coaches Bangkok Erawan Dunker, also believes that investing in youth is the senior teams’ recipe for success.

“We must sow the seeds today to harvest the crop tomorrow. Youth players must taken care of well and given proper training and guidance they will develop and become much better."

“I’m very optimistic about the future of women’s basketball in Thailand because we have the passion for the game and the will to improve. And hopefully in the next four or five years we’ll be able to compete with the region’s best.”

Thailand square off against India tomorrow (August 5) in what is expected to be crucial game to decide who finishes 5th in Level I.
