U19 Women-bound Llorente may also land Edmonton assignment

BUENOS AIRES (2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship/2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship) - Victoria Llorente is a rising star from Argentina whose relentless upward curve might just be about to go vertical.

Firmly-established as one of the best young players of her generation, the stellar talented forward is sliding further towards the centre of many clubs' respective radars around the globe.

Already slated to lead her nation at her second FIBA U19 Women's World Championship in July, her stock could soon soar further after senior Argentina coach Cristian Santander refused to rule out Llorente featuring at the FIBA Americas Women's Championship a month later.

While stepping out in Chekhov, Russia (18-26 July) would impinge on vital preparation for the action in Canada, the play-caller has left the option for Llorente to once again pull on a senior team vest tantalisingly open.

Already having confidence she is able to contribute for the senior team after debuting at the Odesur Games when she helped the team to win gold, the coach also believes it won't be long before the teenager departs her homeland and swaps Atletico Lanus for a higher level.

"The Odesur Games were played at a date when many Argentine players who played in European competitions could not come due to their club commitments and it seemed a good opportunity for Victoria to have her chance," stated Santander.

"This year we have two of the best competitions, although there is an overlap with the U19 World Championship and therefore we will evaluate her participation for the FIBA Americas Championship in Edmonton.

"I also have no doubt she will play abroad in the short term," he added.

With plenty of suitors lining up to secure her services, Llorente will be looking to post another strong showing when the games tip off in Russia.

At the 2013 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship in Lithuania, she averaged over 15 points and seven rebounds per game - even though she was competing against opponents who in many cases, were two years older than her.

It's been very important for her to have played at this tournament before. She will now pass on this experience to the rest of the group. - Santander

Santander is adamant that competing at youth level has been an essential ingredient in helping Llorente to develop and he is hoping that she can flourish once again in the competition.

Not that Argentina are a one-woman show.

They do have other exciting talents in their supporting cast.

Magali Armesto for example, is also heading to her second U19 tournament and was handed the same number of minutes as Llorente last year at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship for Women.

"There are other young players who have the chance to project themselves," agreed Santander, who will be keeping one of the closest eyes on the action in Russia.

"They should all keep working and continue to grow."
