Shao shines as China cut down Korea

WUHAN (2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship) - A typically high class effort from Ting Shao helped China to outlast Korea74-58, as the hosts fired a warning shot to their rivals at the 2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship in Wuhan.

Turning Point: The half-time interval came at a good time for China who were losing by a slender margin when they entered the locker rooms. After making some adjustments, they moved up a gear when the action resumed and took control with a 23-15 quarter.

Stats Don't Lie: While Korea competed well on the glass, they couldn’t convert as efficiently as China who had 44 points in the paint compared to a modest 20 for Korea. The winning team also treated the ball with huge respect and only committed 10 turnovers.

Game Hero: Shao highlighted why she is one of the stars of the women’s game in Asia with a fine 17 points from a clinical eight of eleven shooting performance.

The Bottom Line: While China laboured during the first twenty minutes, they showed their title credentials after the break as they turned the screw to the delight of the home crowd. Imposing under the basket, their strength broke down Korea as the game unfolded and they are living up to their pre-tournament billing as favourites. Korea are yet to win a game but have applied themselves reasonably well, despite opening their campaign with two losses. They shot the ball well from outside and rebounded, but just didn't have the quality of a player like Shao to call upon.
