Quarter-Final pairings set at U18 European Championship

VOLOS (2015 U18 European Championship) - Two-time reigning champions Turkey and France locked up the top spots heading into the 2015 U18 European Championship Quarter-Finals by winning their top notch Second Round showdowns to finish atop their respective groups.

Turkey secured supremacy in Group F by surviving a back-and-forth battle with Lithuania73-67. Furkan Korkmaz (22 points and 12 rebounds) and Ömer Yurtseven (14, 12) both collected double-doubles for Turkey, who improved to 4-1 in the group for the top spot.

Martynas Varnas' 25 points were not enough for Lithuania, who finished in second with a 3-2 record. The game featured 11 lead changes and 11 ties.

Bosnia and Herzegovina jumped to third place in the group with a 3-2 record after beating Italy 72-59 to advance to the Quarters for the first time in history. The Bosnians, who were 13th and 12th the last two summers, got 24 points and 17 rebounds from Edin Atic while Fahrudin Manjgafic picked up 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Greece were already locked into fourth place in Group F ahead of their final Second Round game versus Russia. The Greeks turned around a 14-point deficit in the final 13 minutes to win 61-57. Iakovos Milentigievits led the way for the Greeks with 19 points, including 16 points in the second half.

The Greeks will take on France in the Quarter-Finals.

In Group E, the French raced away from Germany in the third quarter to lock up first place in Group E with an 89-74 victory. Bathiste Tchouaffe scored 21 points and both Frank Ntilikina and Jonathan Jeanne had 16 points for France, who took top honors with a 4-1 mark.

Germany finished third at 3-2 despite 16 points from both Leon Kratzer and Isaiah Hartenstein. And the Germans will face off against Lithuania in the last eight.

Spain came into the day with a chance for first place in the group but watched Latvia out-score them 14-2 in the final five minutes in a 75-73 defeat. Spain took second at 3-2 and will take on the Bosnians in the final eight.

Latvia had already been eliminated before the final Second Round action started but the Baltic side will move into the relegation fight with a victory for momentum as Zigmars Raimo collected a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Serbia were unable to move up in the table despite Vojislav Stojanovic collecting the first U18 European Championship triple-double since 2004 - 15 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists - in an 86-67 victory over Czech Republic. The Serbs finished fourth and will face off against Turkey in the final eight.

The Czechs join Latvia as they also try to stay in Division A.

In the Classification Round Group G, Croatia grabbed first place with a 74-65 victory over Finland as both teams finished at 2-1.

Roko Badzim scored 19 points while Ivica Zubac collected 17 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocks for Croatia.

Ukraine knocked off Montenegro 60-58 to finish third with a 1-2 record - the same mark for Montenegro. Ivan Tkachenko scored 11 points and Vitalii Shibel had 10 for Ukraine.
