PR N°59 - 13 men and 11 women bring high standards of officiating for 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women

ANKARA/ISTANBUL (2014 FIBA World Championship for Women) - The referees that will officiate the games at the 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women have been announced.

The officials are 13 men and 11 women hailing from 24 countries across FIBA’s five continental zones. They rank in age from 30 to 49 (average age of 38.7) and have between two and 18 years of experience as FIBA referees (average of 8.5 years).

The group is made up of tested individuals who strike the right balanace of experience and proven potential. All referees nominated to officiate at the biggest women's national team tournament have been carefully monitored through various competitions in the lead-up to the Championship taking place in Turkey from 27 September to 5 October.

The officials came together for a two-day camp (24-25 August) in Istanbul prior to the start of the competition.

"We are extremely pleased to call on 13 men and 11 women who are tried and tested and can be counted on to bring the high standards of officiating for the biggest international women's tournament in the world," said FIBA Head of Refereeing Carl Jungebrand.

During the competition, each game will be analysed by referees' supervisors using selected video footage and providing feedback to the referees, thereby ensuring that each and every call is analysed by FIBA's Referee Department.

The 2014 FIBA World Championship for Women will take place in Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey from 27 September to 5 October.
