SEVILLA - FIBA on Wednesday held its final Central Board meeting of the 2010-2014 cycle. Out of it came the fact that the International Basketball Federation and its zones had achieved an enormous amount in the space of four years, with the potential to carry that momentum and accomplish even more in the future.

The full extent of the work carried out was reflected in the Board convening a total of 11 times during the period. Arguably the most impressive achievement in that time was the completion of the four pillars, a project set out at the 2010 World Congress in Istanbul, Turkey.

The four pillars are:
1. Bringing changes to the governance structure
2. The completion of the House of Basketball, which became a reality in the spring of 2013
3. The continued dedication to grow and develop 3x3 basketball which has been on-going since the 2010 Youth Olympic Games through the FIBA 3x3 World Tour and the 3x3 FIBA World Championships
4. The implementation of a new calendar and system of competition which will come into effect in 2017.

Moving forward, the Central Board singled out the implementation of the new governance under the system of regional offices run by FIBA as being of the utmost importance. In order to achieve this in the best way possible, FIBA has called on the Boston Consulting Group, whose task is to clarify and align the structure in accordance to the strategy, as well as implementing the changes.

During the meeting held at Hotel Alfonso XIII, the Board consulted on requests made by national federations.

On the subject of a review of the basketball rules regarding headgear, because of the importance of the matter, the Central Board decided that it requires further analysis before a final decision is made. Both the Technical and Legal Commissions shall study and present options to the Central Board.

A new Central Board will be elected during the World Congress taking place on Thursday-Friday 28-29 August and will meet for the first time on Saturday 13 September in Madrid.

Horacio Muratore and Ingo Weiss are the only candidates for the positions of FIBA President and FIBA Treasurer respectively for the 2014-2019 term.
