Park helps Korea cruise to William Jones Cup title

TAIPEI CITY (2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship) - Some sharp shooting by Hyejin Park has helped to carry Korea to a morale-boosting William Jones Cup success as they continue preparations for the 2015 FIBA Asia Women's Championship later this month.

After a slow start in the competition, Park came alive from long-range and that was instrumental in ensuring that Korea finished the 37th edition of the event on top of the podium.

It also meant that Korea completed their participation unbeaten and with five victories from as many games.

They beat host nation Chinese Taipei 68-52 in their last outing, as Park secured her third consecutive double-digit score with 12 points, while Jung Eun Kim top-scored with 14 points.

Perhaps most impressive of all was a crushing 75-56 success against New Zealand, with Park dropping a quartet of three-pointers to help her team to victory.

She also showed her prowess at the defensive end and that was particularly important, since the 25-year-old set the tone by grabbing 2.2 steals per game.

Meanwhile Kyung Eun Lee looks like she may have played herself back into contention for her first FIBA Asia Women's Championship appearance since 2009.

The guard dished out almost three assists per game en-route to the William Jones Cup title.

However, one player who is now seriously struggling to make the action in Wuhan later this month is teenage ace Ji Su Park, with Korea sweating on her fitness.

The center, who led the team at the FIBA Women's World Championship in Turkey last year, has already been ruled out of the forthcoming friendly series against Australia.

She will still travel with the team but is receiving treatment for a thigh strain and also sustained an elbow injury during her recent stint at youth level in Russia for the 2015 FIBA U19 Women's World Championship.

Korea are looking to make a spectacular sixth straight Final at the FIBA Asia Women's Championship.
