Nigeria punch ticket for AfroBasket Women 2015

ABIDJAN (AfroBasket Women 2015) - Nigeria beat Cote d'Ivoire 88-43 in Friday's second leg of their Zone III Qualifier to clinch their berth for AfroBasket Women 2015.

Uju Ugoka had 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead five players in double figures for the visiting team. Helen Ugunjimi and Sarah Ogoke each had 13 and the pair of Upe Atosu and Ndidi Madu added a dozen a piece.

Florence Ouattara, who plays for Drexel University in the US college ranks, had a game-high 17 points in defeat for the hosts.

Much as they did in Thursday's 71-51 first leg win, the Nigerians got off to a great start, leading 25-15 at the end of the first quarter and pulling away further in the second period for a 49-27 halftime advantage.

The second half only served as a demonstration for them to prove their dominance in every aspect of the game.

Scott Nnaji's side will compete in the 12-team event in Yaounde, Cameroon from 24 September-3 October, their 10th participation in Africa's leading women's basketball event.

They will play in Group B alongside reigning champions Angola, Senegal, Algeria, a qualifier from Zone 2 and the recipient of a wild card to be determined.

AfroBasket Women 2015 is a qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
