Mogi stun Boca in OT to set up all-Brazil title game

BAURU (Liga Sudamericana) - The Liga Sudamericana will have an all-Brazil Final on Thursday when surprise package Mogi das Cruzes square off against Bauru.

In an overtime thriller in the first Semi-Final on Tuesday night in Bauru, Mogi edged Boca Juniors 87-85 with Shamell Stallworth hitting a go-ahead shot just with 32 seconds remaining in the extra period.

Lucas Faggiano and Matias Sandes each missed attempts to force a second overtime as Mogi escaped with a narrow triumph.

Bauru then thrashed Malvin, 103-57, in the second Semi-Final.

"We are living a dream, which was created with ambition, with hard work and smarts and are in the final," Mogi coach Paco Garcia said.

"We played with intensity, with the right attitude and with this intensity allowing us to be as great we can be, we are in the Final of the Liga Sudamericana."

Boca had trailed 74-68 with 1:46 remaining in regulation but Faggiano had scored four points to close the gap to 74-72.

After Stallworth made one of two free-throws with 1:05 remaining, Boca center Pedro Calderon buried a three-pointer to knot the contest 35 seconds from the end.

Stallworth twice missed shots that would have won the game in normal time, but he walked off the court with a game-winner.

The former FIBA Americas League winner had 29 points while Mogi teammate Tyrone Curnell chipped in 16 while also corralling a game-high 15 rebounds.

Calderon led Boca with 18 points while Jonatan Treise and Faggiano had 17 apiece.

In the second Semi-Final, hosts Bauru romped to a 103-57 triumph over Uruguayans Malvin.

Bauru stormed into a 31-18 lead by the end of the first quarter and never turned back.

Brazil international Alex Garcia poured in a game-high 19 points and Jefferson contributed 18.

"We prepared very well for this game," said Alex, who played at the FIBA Basketball World Cup for Brazil

"We knew what they had and knew their strengths. When we play well on defense, our offense flows better."
