Jekabsone returns for Latvia, Croatia rule out Misura, Czechs make changes

RIGA/ZAGREB/PRAGUE (EuroBasket Women 2015) - Anete Jekabsone wasted little time in showing why her return to the Latvia locker room will be such an immeasurable boost for her country after she amassed a sparkling 20 points in a 76-61 success over Belarus on Friday.

After revealing she has re-signed for EuroLeague Women side Dynamo Kursk next season, Jekabsone went on to turn on the style as she led Latvia to victory in a one-sided game.

Belarus struggled to keep pace with their opponents, although they will be given a lift by the arrival of Lindsey Harding this week and they did have Yelena Leuchanka ink a classy 22 points and 13 boards.

Meanwhile, the injury woes continue for Croatia with news that Antonija Misura is to miss the tournament with a stress fracture in her foot.

The guard has been enjoying some of the best basketball of her career at club level and had been hoping to step up next month for her country but like Marija Rezan, won't be featuring at the event.

There are also still lingering doubts over two other highly-influential players, Ana Lelas and Iva Ciglar, which means head coach Braslav Turic is sweating over his team's final roster.

"It's a minumum break of eight weeks to heal the injury, which means that we are definitely without Antonija for EuroBasket Women," confirmed the play-caller.

"The injury of Lelas has healed and we pray to God that she will be all right, just as with Ciglar who has an inflamed popliteal [knee] tendon.

"As far as Antonia is concerned, she found it difficult to accept the news.

"She was in shock and we comforted her. She could not believe this has happened.

"But we all must accept it and continue to go on without her."

Meanwhile, Czech Republic head coach Lubor Blazek has released a quartet of players to take his roster down to 14 players.

The highest profile cut to be made is Katerina Sedlakova who stepped out at the FIBA Women's World Championship in Turkey last summer.

Her fellow candidates Beata Adamcova, Barbora Kasparkova and Katerina Novakova have also left the camp.

Czech Republic preliminary squad for EuroBasket Women 2015: Katerina Bartonova, Veronika Bortelova, Ilona Burgrova, Katerina Elhotova, Alena Hanusova, Romana Hejdova, Katerina Hindrakova, Tereza Peckova, Klara Pochobradska, Michaela Stejskalova, Kamila Stepanova, Jana Vesela, Tereza Vyoralova, Petra Zaplatova.
