History beckons as Greece, Turkey move into U18 European Championship title game

VOLOS (2015 U18 European Championship) - Turkey fought back to set up a date with destiny at the 2015 U18 European Championship as the two-time reigning champions will go for a historic three-peat against hosts Greece, themselves looking for their first crown since 2008.

Turkey erased a 17-point deficit to break the hearts of Bosnia and Herzegovina with a 82-77 victory in the Semi-Finals.

Enes Taskiran scored 13 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter while Furkan Korkmaz scored 20 points and Omer Yurtseven collected 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Turks. The team reached their third straight final and a victory over Greece would give Turkey the first U18 three-peat since the Soviet Union won four in a row between 1978 and 1984.

The Bosnians were unable to fend off the determined Turks despite Edin Atic picking up 24 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the country's first-ever Semi-Final appearance.

Greece rode their home crowd and a masterful performance by Vasileios Charalampopoulos into the final with a 68-58 victory over Lithuania.

Charalampopoulos collected 22 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists while Georgios Papagiannis added 15 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and three blocks.

It is the first time the Greeks are in the U18 Final since winning it in 2008. It's also the first Final for the 1997 generation, which reached the Semi-Finals in three of their last four international competitions - 2013 U16 European Championship, 2014 U18 European Championship and 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship.

Lithuania, who got 19 points from Laurynas Beliauskas and 13 points and 15 rebounds from Tadas Sedekerskis, will be shooting for their first medal since silver in 2012. The Baltic team will face Bosnia and Herzegovina.

France advanced to the game for fifth place with a 62-55 victory over Germany as Jonathan Jeanne and Stephane Gombauld both scored 12 points and Luc Loubaki collected 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.

France's opponent for fifth will be Serbia after they beat Spain 90-76 as Vojislav Stojanovic nearly picked up his second triple-double of the tournament with 26 points, 10 assists and 8 rebounds to go with two steals.

Spain and Germany will play for seventh place.

In the Classification Games 9-12, Latvia came up with an improbable three-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime before beating Croatia 78-74.

Eduards Hazners nailed a three-pointer at the buzzer of regulation - for his only points - while Roberts Blumbergs had 16 points and 13 rebounds and Kristers Zorkis collected 16 points, five assists, three steals, two rebounds and two blocks.

Latvia will play against Russia for ninth place after the Russians beat Italy 82-67 with Timofey Yakushin scoring 22 points and Ilia Karpenkov adding 19 points and nine rebounds.

Italy will play Croatia for 11th place.

While Latvia, Croatia, Italy and Russia have already secured their Division A spots for next summer, Finland will square off against Montenegro for the final berth after both teams won their Classification Games 13-16 showdowns.

Lauri Markkanen poured in 32 points to lead Finland to an 88-77 win over Ukraine, who will return to Division B after one summer in the top flight.

Ognjen Carapic meanwhile collected 17 points, seven assists, four steals and three rebounds in Montenegro's 75-53 triumph over Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic, who are also bound for Division B, and Ukraine will face off for 15th place.
