High-ranking officials of FIBA Commissions and FIBA Zones Committees set out best course of action for National Member Federations

MIES - The Chair persons and Deputy Chair persons serving on FIBA's Commissions and FIBA Zones Committees met at the House of Basketball for three days (26-28 February) for a complete brief on how they can best assist the 214 National Member Federations that make up FIBA.

More than 50 people from 30 different countries across five continents participated in meetings and workshops which served to bring them up to speed on the implementation of the new governance and of FIBA as ONE FIBA.

They were then given a full rundown of the new calendar and competition system - which comes into effect in 2017 and will open a new era for basketball worldwide - and the use of 3x3 as an integral tool for the development of the sport was also a significant point of emphasis.

In the lead-up to 2017, FIBA has defined a number of global concepts to be implemented through its Regional Offices. One of them is to cater to the different levels of maturity and development of each and every one of the members and to provide tailor-made services that enable each of them to reach the full extent of their growth potential.

All participants, within their respective area of expertise, are being counted upon to ensure that all National Member Federations will be ready to compete at the highest level and field teams in the qualification process of flagship events. This will begin in 2017, with the two-year qualification period leading up to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Delegates welcomed the opportunity to meet with all Commissions and to exchange views and compare their priorities for the future.

This positive meeting will be repeated on a regular basis.

FIBA's National Member Federations stand to gain substantial benefits from FIBA’s new competition system, such as regular visibility of their national teams throughout the year, which brings with it increased media exposure and promotion and also enhances the potential of the sport at club and national team level.
