Guinea and Mali square off in AfroBasket Women 2015 Zone II qualifier

CONAKRY (AfroBasket Women 2015) - Guinea will face Mali in a two-game FIBA Africa Zone II qualifier for AfroBasket Women 2015 on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 June.

The two teams are battling for different purposes.

Guinea are focused on booking their ticket for the biggest women’s basketball tournament in Africa, while Mali who are already qualified for the 12-team event - by virtue of their fifth-place finish at AfroBasket Women 2013 - are looking to clinch a place for the 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo.

These games will also serve as preparation for Mali, who have taken aim at winning AfroBasket Women 2015.

Mali began their training camp on 22 June in Bamako with a preliminary squad including key players such as Nagnouma Coulibaly, Astan Dabo, Meiya Tirera and Nassira Traore.

For their part, Guinea have put together a team consisting only of domestic league's players.

AfroBasket Women 2015 will take place in Yaounde, Cameroon from 24 September-3 October and serve as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympics.

The winner of the tournament will secure automatic qualification, while the second- and third-place teams will compete in the 12-team FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT).
