FIBA's Asia Office conducts 2017 Competition System workshops with National Federations of China and Indonesia

BEIJING/JAKARTA - The Regional Office of FIBA in Asia conducted back-to-back workshops involving the national federations of China (CBA) and Indonesia (PERBASI) this week in order to brief them on the new competition system coming into effect in 2017.

The workshop in China was held on 24-25 May, with the one in Indonesia following on 26-27 May.

The workshops took the top officials of both national federations through the paces of the various aspects of FIBA's new system and calendar.

"These workshops are the continuance of our plan to conduct similar workshops in various national federations in Asia," said FIBA Regional Director - Asia, Hagop Khajirian.

"It's very obvious that the success of the 2017 competition system depends entirely on how well the national federations deliver the games. Therefore we are taking the lead towards empowering them with the necessary tools."

Khajirian indicated that similar workshops will be held with the national federations of Japan and India.

You can find extended details about the new competition system here.

"I think the workshops presented us with a complete and comprehensive picture of the tasks ahead of us," said Xu Lan, Deputy Secretary General of the CBA. "As hosts of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, we in China do acknowledge the additional responsibility of delivering the games in the 2017 Competition System as well."

"The new competition system is a perfect dress rehearsal to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup itself," said Li Jinsheng, CBA Vice President. "We (CBA) will make use of it to the best of our abilities," he said.

"The challenge is enormous," said Danny Kosasih, President of PERBASI. "But I think the opportunities too are enormous. This workshop has indeed opened our eyes on the avenues that are available to promote the Indonesian national team."

"The workshop was very educative for us," said Budisatrio Djiwando, Secretary-General of PERBASI. "We do have our work cut out on the road ahead, but such workshops will surely go a long way in helping us deliver what is required of us. We are up for the challenge."
