FIBA to announce host country for 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup on Friday

MIES (2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup) - On Friday 7 August, FIBA will announce who of the Republic of the Philippines or the People's Republic of China will host the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

In 2019, FIBA's flagship event will feature 32 teams for the first time ever. It will be the first World Cup played under FIBA's new system of competition that comes into play in 2017, which entails an 15-month qualifying process taking place from November 2017 to February 2019.

The Official Announcement Ceremony will be streamed live on FIBA's YouTube Channel, starting at 16:00 local/Tokyo time (GMT +9). The two finalists will present their bids before FIBA's Central Board makes and announces its decision.

Both countries have brought in leading sporting figures to endorse their bids, with China calling on basketball superstar Yao Ming and the Phillipines backed by boxing great Manny Pacquiao.

The USA are the reigning world champions, having won the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup staged in Spain.
