FIBA launches Basketball Arena Finder

MIES - FIBA has launched the Basketball Arena Finder, a global online database to keep track of all the leading basketball venues from around the world.

The global online database provides information about stadiums and arenas worldwide that host high level basketball competitions.

The aim of this platform is to compile an inventory and present business opportunities as well as a service for all basketball stakeholders to raise the standards of venues, by encouraging the construction of basic facilities and the refurbishment of older ones so that all players have the opportunity to play in safe and state-of-the art sports halls.

The data was collected by FIBA's Equipment & Venue Centre, whose mission is to help equip and increase the number of sports facilities throughout the world, co-ordinate research initiatives and offer consulting services for materials, equipment design and construction.

When FIBA launched this project, it turned to its National Member Federations to serve as the main source of information in identifying the main basketball venues in every country, with technical partners as well as cities and municipalities completing the research.

The collection of all the data was completed in 2013 and therefore the information may in some cases already need to be updated. As such, all stakeholders involved are called upon to do their part in regularly reviewing and updating the database in the coming years by e-mailing the FIBA's Equipment & Venue Centre (equipmentandvenue@fiba.com).
